Apple Music is now available on the Amazon Echo

You can now ask your Amazon Echo to play tunes from Apple Music. It’s a significant step, because the Echo has long supported Apple Music’s rivals, like Spotify, allowing users to request songs and playlists from Alexa by voice.

Apple Music has launched its ‘Preferred Distribution Program’

In choosing three music distributors – namely, CD Baby, The Orchard, and Kontor New Media – Apple will offer clients of these new partners exclusive features via the service. Perks will include advanced analytics and early access to Sales and Trends features in both Apple Music and iTunes.
In order for other distributors to become a “Preferred Plus” partner, they will be expected to cross a threshold of 40,000 songs per quarter with a low Apple Music rejection rate, among other service based criteria. To be a “Preferred” partner, the criteria are similar but the distributor need only cross 10,000 songs per quarter. You can see an image outlining the criteria in greater detail below.
This move from Apple Music follows a similar move from fellow streaming giant Spotify, who recently revealed its own ‘preferred’ digital distributor list.
All of this could also indicate, on a speculative basis, that Apple Music could soon be following in the footsteps of Spotify in introducing a feature that could allow independent artists upload their own music without any need for a record label or third-party aggregator.
While Spotify’s introduction feature is still in it’s Beta stages, it was revealed last week that in order for artists to fully avail of the service, it is likely they will have to pay.

Apple Music adds lyrics from Genius

Do you know Spotify may be cracking down on delinquent Family Plan users

Subscribing for Spotify Premium for Family with your friends sound like a genius move, but it’s also something the music streaming giant doesn’t appreciate. To prevent groups of friends from masquerading as families, Spotify is willing to pull some unusual moves, including asking you to confirm your home address by sending Spotify your location.
As you can see in the Spotify prompt below, Spotify seems to think that proving you live under the same roof with the other members of your Premium for Family is enough to confirm your identity.

Failing to confirm your home address — using your GPS data — may lead to losing your Premium subscription.
It seems that the prompt was part of a brief test and only affected some users. Spotify has stopped the test following backlash, but that doesn’t mean the feature is lost for good.
Spotify is wrong twice here. Some customers may be abusing the family plan, but that doesn’t mean all the members of a family that’s paying for Spotify Premium have to live in the same house. Surely, there must be a different way to prove it. Secondly, how does this move stop friends who’re actually living together from abusing the feature?
But Spotify does have clear but unrealistic rules that have to be respected. As Quartz points out, Spotify states that the two to five people on each family plan must live at the same address. So if those are the rules under which Premium family plans are sold then buyers should respect them.
What’s ironic is that friends who happen to live together can still pretend they’re a family under these rules. They may have to share their location with Spotify from time to time. The more problematic issue is that not all the members of a family that’s actually paying for a Premium plan will always reside at the same address.
As for the privacy aspect of the prompt above, asking customers to allow the app to track their location might not sound right. But the company only uses your location to verify your address. “Spotify will only use your GPS data to verify your location and nothing else,” the company says on its pages.

Apple Music passes Spotify in US subscribers

Beyonce and Jay-Z’s ‘Everything Is Love’ Now Available on Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon

At some point in the wee hours of Monday morning, Tidal’s exclusive on Beyonce and Jay-Z’s new tag-team album “Everything Is Love” became available on Apple Music(and iTunes), Spotify Premium, Amazon and Pandora — and a spokesperson for Spotify confirmed to Variety that the album will be available on the service’s free tier in two weeks.
However, bonus track “Salud” — which was released at the same time as the album and features similar artwork but is not in its sequence — remains a Tidal exclusive.
This breaks the tradition set by Beyonce’s 2016 “Lemonade,” which remains a Tidal streaming exclusive more than two years after its release, although it is available for download on iTunes. “Beyonce’s album ‘Lemonade’ is not currently available on Spotify,” the notice reads. “We are working on it and hope to have it soon.”
Tidal is primarily owned by Jay-Z in partnership with several other artists, including Beyonce.
The album arrived on Saturday afternoon after hints began trickling out with social media posts containing images from the “Everything Is Love” visual campaign. One image posted by Beyonce on Instagram received nearly 200,000 likes in less than 20 minutes as many noted that, once again, Queen Bey had broken the internet.
